✿Trend Beyond at Creative Growth

March 16th Friday, I went to a great event at Creative Growth Art Center Gallery.  It was their fundraising !!
I helped paper lanterns art installation.
Read about it here and here.
Artist of this card image is by Merritt Wallace.

The gallery view from the second floor.
This place was packed with well dressed people.
When I took this photo, most of the people were already in the other room getting ready to watch the fashion show by the Creative Growth artists.

Art worsks by  Donald MitchelleDan Mille,
Dwight Mackintosh.
Creative Growth Art Center Gallery has a large studio space and a large gallery space for the people who are mentally or physically challenged (disable).

This art center offer so many different mediums to the artist.   Painting, dwawing, ceramic, wood cut, weaving, making clothes... probably more...

These artists had fashion show.   It was so amazing to see these artists modeling their own clothes that they created and  having a great time on the stage.  Dancing, posing... ah... that was such a great show !  I think it made some people cry... I never seen people crying by watching the fashion show but... this one, I did and I know some other person did!

They had live action and raised lots of money.  This bike was painted by Donald Mitchelle and sold around $2600, I think.
Ms. Alice Water was there and she donated such a wonderful thing.  2 People can have an exprience to cook at the Chez Panisse and have a private tour to Edible School Yard with Alice Water.  2 people got it for around $2600.
So many great things got sold at the live auction and silent auction, also many people donated cash.

It was one of the most wonderful event I have ever been to.  The energy was so awesome and I was so happy to be there and to be a part of it !!!

✿Creative Growth Art Installation

Last Friday March 16th, Creative Growth Art Center Gallery in Oakland had their amazing fundraising event.
Creative Growth Art Center Gallery has a large studio space and a large gallery space for the people who are mentally or physically challenged (disable).
Before I talk about the fundraising event, let me explain how I helped decorating the space with papers.  I helped Lauren from the Tail of They Yak.

We made lots of flowers, tassels, chains and lanterns using papers.

A week after, those were painted by the artist at Creative Growth Center.

and then... we put lanterns, chains and  tassels together.

We made 3 really huge lanterns as well.  I could easily get inside of the lanterns, that's how big they were.

Thisand thiswere middle sized lanterns which are about 3 soccer balls size.

This artist painted on the rolls of paper and we used that to make table skirts.  I love her art.  I enjoyed watching many artist's work here.

We covered the tables.  How pretty !

This is only half side of the space and there were more installation behind me.

Aren't they so beautiful ? I enjoyed working on this project so much !!
When my friend came to the event and saw the installation, he said he almost cried because it was so beautiful.
This place already look beautiful but this is not the final look yet.

I will post about the event day shortly !

✿One Year Memorial

The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco held a memorial reception on March 13th, one year after the March 11th 2011. The reception was held at the beautiful Golden Gate Club Presidio in San Francisco and over 600 hundred people attended.

Consul General Hiroshi Inomata had speech as well as John Perez of the California State Assembly and figure skate gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi who actually went to Tohoku area to support victims of earthquake and tsunami.
Her foundation called Project Aloha delegation to visit the affected areas.

These women performed Japanese Koto and violin beautifully.

Art by Japanese child in San Francisco.  She probably join the bakes sale to support fundraising.

Lots of delicious foods and drink were provided by Japanese restaurants.

It says all the Shinkansen line were completely restored 49 days of the earthquake. The Shinkansen has the best safety record in the world.  Zero fatal accidents in 47 years.

Relief - Recovery - Rebuild

Thank you so much for ALL your support to Japan !!

My friend and I put together fundraising over last year, more info at

My calligraphy teacher Lauren is decorating Creative Growth Art Center Gallery so I went to help her.  The name of the artist on the poster is Wallace Merritt from Creative Growth Art Center Gallery.

These are paper flower tassels I made.  She is planning to decorate whole ceiling of the gallery with paper tassels, paper chains and paper lantern.  I am already so excited to see how they will look at the end.

(These art works are displayed by the workspace not the gallery)

I was wrapping my little present to my friend.
It's funny that it looks like Inari zushi (sushi).  The straw ribbon looks like Kampyou.
I gave these to Japanese friends so they understood me !!
Next time, I will put them in a box so it would look like 0bentou (bento)!!

Inside of Inari wrappings were these mushrooms I made with clay.

***  Inari zushi  is a pouch of fried tofu filled with usually just sushi rice.

✿Souvenirs from Paris 3

last summer, I had 9 French friends from Paris came to stay at my place and they brought me many nice things from Paris.
My friend, Maroussia, the owner of Andrea Crews gave me dragée from Ladurée and macarons from Dalloyau.   I love this little Ladurée box !!
Dragée has a long expiration date so I'm still hiding from my husband and eating a piece when I'm alone. In fact, I just had one yesterday!
(I hope he doesn't read this...)

I love macarons and this box had nice plastic cover to protect each precious macarons !!

Merci beaucoup Maroussia !

I wrote about wood carver, Mr. Zoshi, Takayuki a little while ago and wrote that he built his atelier and gallery space himself. Today, I am writing about this space he made right next to the gallery space.
This squared fire place is called Irori in Japan and he made that as well.   Irori is very traditional and used for heating the room, boiling water and cooking food.
The wood stick looks like umbrella handle is for hanging kettle or cooking pot and fish shaped wood parts makes adjustable to go lower or higher.

He is putting charcoal in Irori.  His wife made obento lunch and we ate in this room.  It was so fun being in this room and sitting in front of Irori feeling warm in the rainy day.

I love this iron kettle so much !
